Christian Science Nurse Assistant class
Tenacre is an organization where Christian Science is lived and practiced through the services we offer. Those relying on Christian Science come to Tenacre as a haven and place for prayer, study and healing. We offer two-week classes for members of The Mother Church who would like to serve fellow Christian Scientists during these times.
The class prepares members to be Christian Science nursing assistants, serving as religious ministers at Tenacre. This support role doesn’t require direct oversight of the guests (patients), but it forwards the ease and facilitation of Christian Science nursing. Students are introduced to the ethics, spiritual foundation and basic practical ideas which enables one to assist the Christian Science nurses in simple ways.
The Christian Science nursing assistants provide such things as:
- one to one spiritual reassurance;
- reading to those seeking healing in Christian Science;
- taking people for walks and wheel chair rides;
- having inspiring conversations with guests;
- simple assistance at mealtime; and
- making beds and tidying the environment.
The next class we’re offering begins February 12, 2018. Individuals who are at least 18 would be applying for full-time employment as Christian Science nursing assistants. There would not be an expectation or requirement to continue on in Christian Science nurse’s education, although that would be an option.
We invite you to consider joining us in this heartfelt spiritual ministry. Please call 609.279.2328 or email Christine Hein at chein@tenacre.org with questions or for an application. You are also welcome to visit our website, www.tenacre.org, for more information.

An Evening of Music & Inspiration with Ian Ethan Case
Best known for his innovative approach to the 18-string acoustic double-neck guitar, Ian has been performing across the United States for the past ten years and completed his first tour of Europe in 2016. Recently signed to international record label Candyrat Records, his compositions combine complex percussive ideas rarely applied to guitar, with rich, multi-layered harmonic orchestration and singable melodies. In addition to being featured on NPR programs like “Here & Now” and “Echoes”, his music has reached a worldwide audience through social media, with his online videos receiving over 12 million views in the past year. His most recent album “Run Toward The Mountains” received warm reviews in North America and Europe from music publications and top players alike, and his latest project “Earth Suite” features some of the most innovative improvising musicians today including 4-Time Grammy Award-winning cellist Eugene Friesen and legendary world percussionist Jamey Haddad.

“Going up higher”, a talk by Joey Hoffman, C.S.
To do this, the talk urges a deep look at what is appearing in individual consciousness, and the results of “…lifting thought above error, or disease, and contending persistently for truth…” (SH 400: 18) The message is seen through the lens of I John 3, and includes a focus on praying for the world, and the role of The Christian Science Monitor and our periodicals in those prayers.
In preparation for the workshop, attendees are invited to read and study the book of I John in the Bible and Unity of Good by Mary Baker Eddy; and to prayerfully consider:
• What is appearing in consciousness, and the meaning of I John 3: 2 “When he shall appear, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.”
• The importance of the scientific statement of being and its correlative statement in I John 3.
• How we can enlarge our prayers to heal the world.
• The spiritual practice of perfect justice.

February workshop: “Christian Science Nurse”: A Manual By-Law for Every Member
A large group participated in our February workshop. Here are some of their comments upon completion:
• I especially enjoyed the homework assignment to prepare for the class; it was very useful. The assignment was to look up the word “nurse” in the dictionary, then find examples of “nurses” and “nursing” in the Bible, based on those definitions.]
• … most helpful was a deeper understanding of what it means to be a Christian Science nurse in my environment.
• Grateful for the focus on this week’s Bible Lesson.
• Moved thought forward with demonstration of CS nursing and standard of CS nursing.
• Attending this workshop has been God’s gift to all of us. I feel enlightened, informed, and ready to continue serving the great Cause.
• It was valuable to really explore the By-Law with the understanding that the key to nursing is the Christian Science that makes it possible to heal spiritually.
• Loved the idea expressed that the source of all nursing qualities is divine.
• Very helpful overall to be more aware of expressing nursing as part of being a member of The Mother Church.
• Really liked how all participated.
• You can’t leave thinking that CS nursing isn’t for you; oh no – we all include these qualities and already express them and can continue.

Ministry of Christian Science Nursing 1 Students
The students in our Ministry of Christian Science Nursing 1 course recently took their ministries to the Washington DC area. Here are some of their comments:
• Our trip was truly “an outreach of Love”; every day was an opportunity for prayer and to witness God’s unconditional Love for all mankind.
• God leads you; we were able to really meet some needs that weren’t what our plan was originally.
• We enjoyed getting to expand our experience…
• My main overall impression was that of “effortless naturalness”.
• Everyone we met was so warm and welcoming.
• It was encouraging to see how well known and wide spread the concept of the Christian Science nurse is in the area…
• I gained a great deal of confidence, that…we have exactly what we need for every situation we find ourselves in.
• We witnessed healing taking place.

Christian Science Nurses complete Fundamentals I Course
We rejoice with the five participants who recently completed the Fundamentals I course for Christian Science nurses which began May 16 in our School of Christian Science Nursing.
We are grateful for this global group! – an expression of part of Tenacre’s current theme from “The Message” Bible – “bringing out the God-colors in the world”. They began their ministries with three weeks of classes in the School, and then joined the ministries in the Willow and Rose settings. Their presence was a blessing to all.

A happy group completed our recent workshop, “The Christian Science Nurse Within You!” in our School of Christian Science Nursing.
Here are some comments from the course participants:
-
- I am grateful that I could come to learn about Christian Science nursing… I learned better that nurturing and patience are key aspects of Life.
- We covered the full scope of what was needed.
- I’m really grateful I took time for this inspiring workshop. I learned a lot about the God-given qualities that a CS nurse already has and that we as members of The Mother Church already have…
- I’m so glad that now I know that the Manual By-law, “Christian Science Nurse” applies to me. I always skipped over it before.
- I loved everything about this workshop.
- It was very enriching to share the workshop experience with a variety of different people.
- I came away with a much more thorough knowledge of and respect for Christian Science nursing. And I had a great time!
